Objective: Create a base template for clients to customize as needed for a monthly neighbourhood mail brochure.
Background: The Business Builder brochure is a program by DMS Connect. Its purpose is to help real estate professionals gain business from prospective clients. The brochure began as a 4-page blank canvas, but as it grew in popularity DMS Connect found that this was time consuming for them as well as for clients who did not want to put energy into finding content.
Results: Two fresh and colourful designs were created. The first was happily used for two years. As DMS Connect gained client feed back on their program they made note of it. Which allowed for a redesign that packed even more of a punch!
DMS’s clients liked the original redesign because the front page background image changed with the seasons, drawing prospective client’s interest and focus to their flyers. However, after implementing this design we found that the background image worked a little too well and drew too much attention away from the real estate professional listed on the flyer! The stats presented on the brochure also got revamped from a text heavy layout to an infographic. This was to make the information easier and faster to pick up on, a common marketing and communication trend in today’s fast-paced world. This held true, but not necessarily for everyone. Some older clients found the infographics combined with the background image difficult to understand.
In light of the above insights, a second redesign took place to amend these concerns. To draw attention back to the real estate professional, I made their artwork area larger and removed the background image. The stats became a combination of text-heavy charts and simple graphics to appeal to both younger and older generations.
