Clean Break Branding

Categories: Branding, Logo, Print Marketing

Objective: Create a logo and business card for Clean Break, a charity organization – inadvertently creating the birth of a brand.

Background: Clean Break helps people get back on their feet and make a fresh start. This could mean many things, ranging from securing groceries, a safe place to sleep, and clean clothes to accessing addiction treatment or education. Whatever it is, Clean Break offers counseling and connects people with a means of getting what they need.

Results: As Clean Break is a faith-based organization, I had a plethora of symbolism to draw from. However, I also had to consider that overly religious symbolism could potentially alienate certain groups of people. My main inspiration became water and rebirth, as not only does this theme have significant meaning within religious traditions, but it is also cross-cultural. This intuitively led to the choice of a calm, dreamy blue to represent water. I paired the blue with yellow to add a positive and hopeful energy to the colour scheme.

Additionally, the broken circle conveys several layers of meaning. Circles represent wholeness and completion – something many of the people Clean Break supports are searching for. Breaking the circle symbolizes the healing process – breaking away from a bad situation and moving forward to recovery. Reflecting the water theme, it also creates a C-shape similar to a wave.

Lastly, I chose Calibri as the primary typeface because of its inviting round lines. It pairs nicely with Georgia, a reliable friend.
