Background: The Works Art & Design Festival is a free 13 day extravaganza of visual art, design and entertainment that takes over Edmonton’s downtown core every summer.
Objective: To be a super duper design assistant. I was debriefed on the 2015 design campaign (“click bate” – inspired by Buzz Feed) and told to run with it. The Works’ in-house designer, Christine Frost, created the initial design elements. So it was my job to apply this style and theme to everything else needed for the festival.
Results: Wow, there is a lot of print and digital items needed to market a 13 day festival! Below is just a peek at the elements I put together.
The chalk piece, shown below, came about by me getting a little antsy at my desk. While I do LOVE design the one downfall is that it requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. So rather than staring at a computer and virtually making a chalk logo, I decided to get out of my chair actually do it. Change = Creativity.
You’ll notice the stage posters, shown below, are significantly different from the rest of the campaign. This was an intentional choice. It’s a tradition at The Works for the stage poster to stand out from that year’s design campaign. In effect, this was my opportunity to branch out and spread my wings. In light of the festival theme “making space,” I went with an outer space theme.
