Home & Family Newsletter

Categories: Print Marketing

Objective: To redesign the Home & Family newsletter with an updated look, while still retaining its personality. The Home & Family newsletter is marketed as traditional, classic, and elegant. It was originally created for exclusive RE/MAX use and matched the old RE/MAX branding. Currently, agents from all brokerages use the publication, so this branding no longer made sense.

Colour Results: As a large percentage of RE/MAX clients still used this publication, I chose a blue listed as a secondary colour in the RE/MAX brand guide. This was a good middle ground option, as it complements RE/MAX agent’s artwork and is removed enough that it does not compete with other brokerages’ branding. This blue became part of the header as well as titles and other details in the magazine layout.

Typography Results: The Home & Family masthead needed to clearly communicate the original characteristics of the publication: traditional, classic, and elegant. Therefore I chose Bodini as it is a serif typeface that embraces all three of these characteristics. Coupled with a handwritten ampersand, the masthead is timeless and the defining characteristic of the publication. In my redesign, the headers changed to Gotham. You caught me – Gotham is RE/MAX’s typeface but it is also a neutral and timeless font that brings the publication up to date. To ensure the body text would work well for the newsletters print and digital versions, I chose Minion Pro, a highly readable, clean, neutral book face.
